During our online sessions, which aimed at facilitating and supporting grief processing, we dealt with the concept of grief and the crisis of loss on a theoretical level, and we also tried and learned concrete exercises.
The first step was to develop a sense of trust through introductions, group exercises and pair discussions.
Today's people are less prepared to deal with loss and to process it, which is reflected on a social and also on an individual level. We discussed what it is like to be in such a situation, what it means to cope with loss, how we and those around us usually react, and what emotions can arise. We described the stage approaches up to the more recent cyclical theories, with a greater emphasis on one of the most influential theories, Kübler-Ross' five stages (1. rejection, 2. anger, 3. bargaining, 4. depression, 5. resignation) theory.
In the second session participants shared their personal grief, and then we used different methods to help them process it.Both individual and interactive exercises were included, for example, letter writing.
We are very grateful to have been with them for a small part of this difficult journey.
